The Date Remembered in Infamy
Diego Morales
Wednesday December 7th was National Pearl Harbor Remembrance day to honor the men who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor, “A date which will live in infamy” Franklin Roosevelt said.
In 1941 the Japanese military leader Hideki Tojo ordered an attack on US Naval Base Pearl Harbor in response to the embargo the United States placed on them during World War 2. The Japanese Air Force flew in dropping bombs on unsuspecting American soldiers and opened fire on them. They bombed their Naval Ships, killed many civilians and soldiers.
The United States Navy lost many ships during the attack and some were destroyed so badly, they were never repaired. As a result, the USS Arizona, which was one of those beyond repair, was turned into a memorial and for the soldiers trapped in the ship, their resting ground. More than 2000 people lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor amongst those lost half were military personnel and many go the USS Arizona Memorial to pay their respects to soldiers lost.
There are a lot of events on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance day like a tour of the USS Arizona and Pearl Harbor Mass Band. It would be a trip worth making to honor those who perished in the Japanese assault.

Fast Food Quite Expensive.
Kaylee Alston
Do you enjoy eating out? What about the amount of money your meal ends up being? quite expensive right?
I recently took a poll of the amount of people in my class that enjoy eating out at fast food restaurants. The fast- food restaurant that had the most votes was zaxby's. If you have ever eaten out at zaxby’s before you know that there meals can become very expensive and if you like to get a lot of sauce they also charge you for that. But why would you rather spend 20$ every night rather than grabbing groceries and cooking food at home?
When you go to the grocery store yes , your food can get expensive but it saves you money in the long run because you don’t have to go out everyday to purchase food like at fast food restaurants. Also , when you go and eat out the amount of grease your body takes in from the food is not good for you nor your body and especially your heart.
On the other hand many people do have reasons to eat like religious reasons , maybe they live on their own and are incapable of providing for themselves.
Ten times out of ten the prices fast food restaurants charge you for the food is unreasonable for instance charging three dollars for five fries for five dollars for a frosty that is the size of a baby's cup.
At the same time grocery store prices are also unreasonable but either way you have to eat rather it is through fast food or if you are buying food from the grocery store.
Overall my main point is that you can save yourself a headache and money for the long run by eating at home rather than eating out at a fast food restaurant every other day.It can stop you from having futre health problems and help save your money.

Your Eyes Will Be “Frozen” to The Screen
Peyton Reynolds
Disney is known for their blockbuster animated movies that seem to shake the whole world when they are released, and I recently watched Frozen, arguably one of the most popular of all time.
“Frozen” is a computer animated film created by Walt Disney Animation Studios. It was released November 27, 2013 by Walt Disney Pictures. It is also a musical that contains 10 original songs that are guaranteed to be stuck in your head, in a good way.
Starring Kristen Bell as the voice of Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Josh Gad as Olaf, and much more capture humor, charm, and the magic that brings “Frozen” to life. This Academy Award winning movie is by far the best Disney movie of the decade.
Two young sisters suddenly lose their parents and the older sister, Elsa is forced to step in her mother's place as queen. Along with that, Elsa has been locked away her entire childhood due to powers she couldn't control. After Elsa’s coronation, her powers take a very bad turn against her, which leaves the kingdom in trouble.
It is then left to Elsa's sister, Anna, to reverse what Elsa's powers are doing to the kingdom. To accomplish this she has to take on a vigorous mission amongst a storm of snow and ice. Along the way she meets many people, including two main characters, Kristoff and Olaf.
This movie has the perfect combination of humor, romance, and fast paced adventure. “Frozen” will leave anyone who watched it wanting more and more of the good hearted film. It’s a movie enjoyable for all age groups, although it is more projected towards towards younger audiences.
If I were to rate the movie, I would give “Frozen” a ⅘ stars. This an outstanding animation film, that I think will go on to be a great Disney classic.

DeepMind Goes Deeper
By: Ian Phillips
After defeating the world’s best Go player earlier this year, Google’s DeepMind AI research company is looking to set its sights on conquering an even larger stage, the world of StarCraft II.
Earlier this month, during their annual convention BlizzCon, Blizzard announce their co-operation with DeepMind on an ambitious project. Creating an AI capable of defeating the world’s best StarCraft II players. This project could help lead to the creation of the next generation of artificial intelligence.
DeepMind really started to gain attention after their AI defeated Lee Sedol, a 9-Dan Go player, without any handicaps. Their AI, called AlphaGo, defeated Sedol 4-1 with Sedol only winning in the fourth game and conceding the final game. AlphaGo was even awarded an honory 9-Dan in recognition of its victory.
Many within the StarCraft pro-scene had suspicions that their beloved game would be the next target for DeepMind. It makes sense for DeepMind to move to StarCraft next, after all it is another highly strategic game but with the added difficulty of being in real time and complex resource management. Dan “Artosis” Stemkosi, a legendary StarCraft player and Commentator believes the AI might have the advantage in mechanical skill and resource calculations, but that would be enough to dethrone the pros.
“Even if it has studied all of the many strategies I've used, I'll go at it with an unstoppable strategy I've prepared,” Lim “Boxer” Yo Hwan commented on his thoughts about the threats of an AI opponent.
DeepMinds StarCraft AI aims to be a general-purpose AI capable of learning more than just games. They hope create the AI ability to succeed in StarCraft II by only giving it some bare essential game specific knowledge. With this knowledge, the AI is supposed to take a trial-and-error approach to learn how to best the best of the best.
